MTT/DTT Tips

BEPS 2.0 is an international tax reform framework led by the OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development). It mainly targets multinational groups that shift profits to low-tax jurisdictions to pay less tax. Singapore legislated in 2024 to implement the BEPS 2.0 Pillar Two rules from 2025 (for financial years 2025 onwards), bringing the global minimum tax into its domestic tax system.

A company must register for MTT/DTT if it meets both of the following conditions:

- Based on the ultimate parent entity's (UPE) consolidated financial statements, the multinational group had annual revenue of EUR 750 million or more in at least two of the four preceding financial years; and

- The group has at least one constituent entity (CE) or joint venture in Singapore, or at least one reverse hybrid entity incorporated in Singapore.

As Singapore's MTT/DTT is a new tax framework that applies to financial years starting on or after 1 January 2025, the registration and filing process is still in its first round. In practice, some registrations may take longer due to tax system data matching, document verification or further review.
